Provided the hurricanes doesn’t wipe out Cozumel and Grand Cayman, can you help me with tips on snorkeling in water 10-15ft? I have seen different types of masks and snorkels, some with caps on top. I just want to conserve energy and get the best experience I possibly can. How are disposable underwater cameras?
* Miranda and JoeD thanks so much!

* Cloud G you need to find something better to do with your saturday nights!

You know when you are on vacation in the Caribbean and different companies offer snorkeling trips? What types of boats are generally used to take people out on these trips? Are there public companies that run these businesses or are they small private companies that own just one boat?

I am going to the Cayman Islands this winter and would really love to go scuba diving, but I have never been and am not certified. Would I need to get certified in the states before going? If so, how do I go about doing this? Is it expensive? Time consuming? THANK YOU!! Best answer= diez points!!

We are avid snorkelers and our vacation plans are based ONLY on the HOW GOOD the SNORKELING IS! We are aware of the much publicized devastation of coral reefs over the last couple of years. Last year we tried Grand Cayman and were disappointed. Lots of dead or bleached coral all over. Since it was our first time there we couldn’t tell if it was from the recent damage. Where is the snorkeling less affected, in other words, where it is just as good now as it was several years ago? We would prefer a place where there is enough good snorkeling you can do on your own without having to go on a boat and be subject to the boat’s schedule.
Thanks!
Thanks everyone! I forgot to mention that we want to go somewhere NEW (for us), and we’ve already done some great snorkeling at BVI (including St. John), Bonaire, Cozumel, and Belize, as well as Grand Cayman.
We are thinking about Turks & Caicos, Antigua, or Curacao. Someone told me that in Turks & Caicos, the coral has not been affected.
